Insta-Grip Low-Pressure Hose

Continental serves many automotive industries and has been for many, many years. Below is a lineup of their insta-grip low pressure hoses and tubing’s. As you’ll see if you read more about them, these products deliver excellent performance while having a proven track record of durability. We’re also eager for you to consider the various types of Continental hoses we have in place. Our diverse lineup will help you select the hose or tubing that best fits the needs of your low-pressure carwash application. Consider hoses with different temperature ranges, different colors, various diameters, and much more. You can order each hose by the foot, ensuring you’re getting the size you need.

Our product pages are a great way to learn the differences between one hose and the next. We’ll layout the specifications so you can narrow down your list before ultimately making the right call. There are other ways to ensure you are choosing the right product, too. You can always give our support staff a call to discuss the best Continental hose for your wash. No matter how you go about it, you’ll ultimately end up with a quality, reliable hose or tubing!

Continental ContiTech Insta-Grip hoses are designed for use with push-on fittings, eliminating the need for clamps. They are found commonly in shop air, general industrial, maintenance, automotive assembly, and car wash systems. Insta-Grip hoses are ideal for these applications as they are easy-to-install,and their construction provides durable, non-conductive, and flexible performance for air, water, and low-pressure hydraulic systems. They are rated for working pressures up to 300 PSI (Insta-Grip 300) or 250 PSI (Insta-Grip 250) and operate within a temperature range of -40F to 210F. Featuring a robust synthetic rubber cover and tube, they are reinforced with high-strength synthetic yarn. We offer various colors (blue, black) and sizes (e.g., 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" ID). Many versions are non-conductive and MSHA-approved.

Is a synthetic rubber or polyurethane air hose better?

Continental Insta-Grip hoses are constructed from oil- and heat-resistant synthetic rubber (specifically Nitrile/PVC blend or Chemivic synthetic rubber). These multipurpose hoses are designed for push-on fittings with a reinforced braided synthetic yarn cover and a high-oil resistance rating (ARPM Class A or B). These hoses are commonly used for air, water, and oil-based fluid transfer, with working pressures up to 300 PSI and temperature ranges from -40°F to 210°F.

Synthetic Rubber Air Hoses (Best for Flexibility & Heat)

  • Pros: Extremely flexible, easy to coil, and lay flat on the floor. Superior resistance to high temperatures and superior durability under high-pressure (200–300 PSI).
  • Cons: Heavier and easier to tear or cut. Often stiffer in cold weather compared to polyurethane.
  • Best Use: Auto shops, painting, or jobs requiring a comfortable, easy-to-manage hose, and environments with high-heat tools.

Polyurethane air hoses are generally better for lightweight, durable, and abrasion-resistant performance, while rubber is better for superior flexibility, easy coiling, and heavy-duty, kink-free, all-weather performance. Polyurethane is lighter, stronger, and more resistant to oils, but costlier and more prone to "springing".

Polyurethane (PU) Air Hoses (Best for Durability & Portability)

  • Pros: Significantly lighter than rubber, reducing fatigue during extended use. Extremely durable, with superior resistance to abrasions, oils, solvents, and cuts. They typically do not kink.
  • Cons: Tend to be more expensive. They often have "memory" (they prefer to stay in their coiled shape) and are less flexible to handle, making them stiffer to uncoil compared to rubber.
  • Best Use: Light-to-medium duty, automotive shops, or anywhere the hose is frequently moved or dragged across rough surfaces.

Considerations on Hoses and Push-On Fittings

Insta-Grip hoses are designed for low-pressure 300 PSI hydraulic / pneumatic systems. They use specific barbed, push-on fittings that eliminate the need for clamps or specialized tools. These fittings are typically made of brass or carbon steel and feature a barb stem designed for quick, manual, and secure insertion into the hose. Simply lubricate the fitting and push it into the hose until the first barb is engaged.

Key Types of Insta-Grip Fittings & Connections

  • Barbed Hose Fittings: Designed to grip the hose securely when pushed into the hose inner diameter (ID).
  • Push-On/Push-Lock Fittings: These allow for rapid, hand-assembled connections
  • Male Push-In Fittings: Commonly used for connecting directly into tools or manifold ports.
  • Hose Menders (Shank x Shank): Couplings used for connecting or repairing two lengths of Insta-Grip hose.
  • Elbow Fittings (90°/45°): Used for directing the hose at an angle in tight spaces.
  • Threaded Adapters: Connect barbed ends to various thread types, including Male Pipe (NPT) and British Standard Pipe (BSP).
